This weekend was wonderful, but pretty stinkin exhausting

Friday night and Saturday we helped my parent move!!
Woop Woop!
Don't get me wrong we loved Cave Hollow, but this new place just feels like home.
and it has a yard!!
They are still in Bountiful, but up Mueller Park Canyon.
So it is kind of tucked up in the trees and hillside.
My sweet momma has not wasted two seconds to start planting!

After two days of hauling boxes and cleaning Jack and I brought dinner for everyone
We were sitting in the backyard eating
and everyone agreed
It feels like we have always lived there. It feels like we will always be there too
We even all agreed we like this new place better than the Sterling house.
I couldn't be more pleased!!
BBQ's nonstop until summer ends!!

Sunday Jack and I spoke in church for the first time as a couple!
This was my first non-youth-speaker talk so the idea of standing there, talking for 15 minutes was a tad daunting to me, but we did it!!!
We spoke on Eternal Families
Which is a pretty easy topic to speak on, and I had lots of stories I was able to tell so that was helpful
But it went pretty well! Jack did phenomenally but he is such a natural at that kind of thing!
I think I wrote my talk two weeks ago and this guy busted his out on Saturday in like an hour!
I was so impressed, plus hearing him talk about our marriage and future was one of the sweetest moments in my life.
He definitely makes me one proud wifey!!!

As you can imagine after the talks I was emotionally and physically drained!
We went to my parents for dinner, but lasted about two hours
and called it an early night.
Sure excited about this beautiful new place though :)

PS- Tune in to Studio 5 tomorrow @1 to see yours truly!!

Friday Favorites: On My Radar

Because of my job I am constantly searching the internet.
I will be honest, I come across some pretty cool things!
So, I thought I would share a few links that have been "on my radar this week!"

  1. In honor of the world cup (and the fact my sweet hubby served his mission here) I found these delicious Brazilian recipes. Jack even vouched that these are truly authentic Brazilian treats. Spoiler alert (we are making these on Wednesday for our weekly PLL party, anyone who wants is invited)

      2.  I recently came across the blog Cocorie. She is a freelance graphic designer, and has all these darling wallpapers for your computer, phone, ipad, whatever. She also has a blank cookbook you can download and write all your new recipes in! I just downloaded this one.

        3.  My most FAVORITE blog posted a video touring her perfect house. As if we didn't dream about living in Chicago enough.... Every room is decorated like this! She literally didn't miss a single detail! Obsessed :)

        4.  Anyone else following Wimbledon?? If there is one reason I started playing tennis, it was definitely for the cute outfits. I mean who doesn't want a Louis Vuitton tennis racket cover??

5. As if there are not enough things going on in the world this week. It is men's fashion week in Milan, which means STREET STYLE!! woooo woooo!! It appears \ we all need to go out and buy some birks and sneaks..

Pair dresses with white sneakers for a more casual look.

6. I thought this was very interesting. Huffingtonpost  featured this article where journalist Esther Honig asked 40 photo editors in 25 over countries to "Make me look beautiful.” She sent a photo of herself to be photoshopped around the world.

That's it for me!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend

Midi Skirts

With it being so hot right now, I am finding myself wearing a LOT of skirts
There is just something about skirts that instantly make you feel girly and cute
even if it is blazing hot outside
and your office doesn't believe in A/C
I have been wearing mine with sandals, but heels are great to dress it up!

Here are a few of my favorites that are online now!

                            Topshop                                                         JOA

                    Bloomingdales                                                  House of Fraser

And a thousand to dream of here. Oh, how you kill me Tibi

Guilty Pleasures

We are working on a segment at Studio 5 called "Guilty Pleasures."
Lets be honest we ALL have them!
You know, the secret pleasures you may be slightly embarrassed if people knew about you...
I have realized I have plenty of little things I secretly enjoy behind closed doors!

First things first...
I have a serious sweet tooth!
It is deadly.. I just can't say no! It's not the baked goods, I mean I like those, but candy?
That is a completely different story!
My friend Lindsie and I decided to embark in this 100 day challenge once...
We decided that for 100 days we would not eat ANY candy!
and we did it!
kind of......
If Ice Cream wasn't a part of the deal.... we took FULL advantage of that little mishap in the contract.
sour patch watermelons, good and plenty, hot tamales....
always on hand at the Boren residence:)

This one is especially lame... I deserve criticism for this...
I love the Kardashians
I do!! I can't help it! I tried to kick the horrid habit when I got married and didn't have cable
but that didn't stop me.....
I follow them all on Instagram.
I have seen every show.
I even used to watch the re-runs at the gym when I would run on the treadmill!
I screen shot pics when Kim is looking especially skeezy and send them to my mom
(I mean what's a guilty pleasure if you can't share it!?)
I about died when Kimye was on the cover Vogue this year.
I still have it if any of you missed the issue ;)

I constantly "window shop" ONLINE!!!
This term is when you look strictly just to look, and sometimes cover, everything on the web
It is kind of weird.... I don't know what my deal is, but I just really love pretty things.
Especially new pretty things!
There is a reason I had to leave Nordy's people!
There is seriously no better feeling than ripping the tag off the beautiful new blouse you bough and are wearing for the first time.
And the convenience online creates!
I mean free shipping, free returns?!
You get to try it on with your own clothes!
In your own lighting that doesn't make you look 20 pounds heavier...
It is brilliant.
but even when I am not purchasing
I still LOVE LOVE LOVE looking and being up-to-date!
For any of you who haven't checked out Polyvore...

These are just my top three, but I could probably go on for days!!
What are your guilty pleasures?

Patterned Tile

Since working with the magazine I have really grown to love design.
It is definitely all in the details
We see so many homes, so the one's that have really paid attention to the details
are the homes that get me

One thing that especially catches my eye is beautiful tile
Tile adds so much personality to a space
Whether it's a the floor, backsplash, (I have even seen a cool tile ceiling!)
Here are a few of my favorites

My future entry...
Just saying! Is this not to die for?!

You typically see fun tile in bathrooms, but this is actually a living room!

Last Christmas Jack's sister got married in Italy
so we ventured to the Amalfi coast for one of the most incredible destination wedding ever

One of the days we went to Pompeii
Pompeii was the city near Naples that was practically destroyed when
Mount Vesuvius blew in I believe 50 AD
Anyways these BEAUTIFUL mosaic tiles survived the test of time
As I took these photos I said to Jack
"One day baby" he agreed, so I am holding him to that promise :)

Ancient Rome's guard dog :)

Perhaps one of my favorite stops of the trip....
 The Brothel

Recent Reads: The Alchemist

I recently finished a phenomenal book, and whenever I come across things that are simply phenomenal... I must share them!
You have probably heard of the book The Alchemist

It is definitely a quick read and well worth your time
It is about a young shepherd Santiago. He keeps having this dream where he is being told to seek treasure at the foot of the Egyptian pyramids. He decides to talk to this gypsy woman hoping she can help him interpret the dream, and tells him he must go to Egypt and when he finds his treasure he must share it with her. The rest of the story is about Santiago searching for his treasure, and the adventures he has along the way.
The book is centered around Personal Legends. Satisfying your own personal legend is the only way to find satisfaction in life, and the universe is on your side. You may have to make sacrifices, and you may be scared to leave something you have for something you want, but it is worth it in the end in order to fulfill your dreams.

I found all these themes very inspirational in my own life. I am definitely a dreamer. I love late nights talking with my hubby about what's out there for us, and who we want to become.
This book definitely provokes many good thoughts, and many good talks.
If you are looking for something to read now that you've finished The Fault In Our Stars for the 12th time... This is a goodie :)

Crockpot Chicken

Dear anyone who is in need for a QUICK, EXTREMELY EASY
and delicious might I add,

I give you.......

Crockpot Chicken
the answer to your busy yet starving night's dreams

All you do is throw 4 or 5 frozen chicken breasts along with 1 can of chicken broth, 1 packet of taco mix, and 1 packet of ranch dressing mix into a crockpot!!!
Let it cook on low while you are at work
and Voila!!

Here it is before I went to work:

Here it is after:

Seriously so delicious and so easy. It makes lots of chicken so we make it as tacos one night, on a salad,   burrito bowl style, in a pepper, on a piece of toast.....

When we are home we really don't like to spend forever cooking so this works for us!
Hope it works for you too!!

Today I was able to shoot my first entire home!!!!
It blew my mind to learn how much goes into staging a photoshoot
This home was a remodel so they shot it last spring before any renovations were done
Then last week we went through the entire home with the designer and home owner getting the full run down on what they have done over the past year, materials used, sources, ect ect
The next day (or that night) we talk with the designer and tell him the changes that will need to be made if he/she wants us to shoot the home (or rooms if there are rooms we don't like)
After ALL that we do the shoot

Today was special because we loved the entire home so this home will be one of our features
which basically means the entire home (before and after) will have a 4-5 page spread in our magazine
this shoot is for the Spring 2015 issue
(shows how far in advance we have to work right...)

Here's how the actual shoot goes:
1. at about 9 o'clock you walk into an immaculately designed home
2. you do a full walk through with the designer (the home owners are typically not here for this)
3. we decide where the lighting is best for the time and you start in that space
4. for this space the lighting was coming through the back windows so we started in the guest bedroom

This is what the space looked like when we got there
Beautifully done. (there was a great chair and bench behind me but I loved the lamps by the side of the bed so I had to show you how cute they were)

5. We choose where we think we can get the best shot and start framing
this is typically the hardest part because how you would stage a house for someone to see is completely different than how you see it in the magazine.
The camera's lens is doing all kinds of great things to (I can get into that later) so you have to move objects closer and add things where there are holes and everything has to be absolutely perfect

the best part????
LOTS of BEAUTIFUL flowers :)
we arranged flowers like crazy today!
I seriously could go into the flower biz after today it was so much fun!

We has white sheets initially but it was too white..... So we changed them to yellow
(keep in mind my camera REALLY picked up the yellow it wasn't this bright!)

I mean seriously, who wouldn't love to have fresh tulips at their vanity everyday??
the Q-Tips were just for the shoot..... She didn't have that before :)
All in the details!

The backyard furniture we had brought in just for the shoot as well
This was the one space that wasn't completely furnished when we got there
Everything was set up literally as we were shooting
Just goes to show that things are not always as they may appear ;)

I loved this office.
It was so simple and so clean

The house was build in 1963 if you can think of the style you will know how much of a transformation this place is! All the hallways were widened, moldings, doors, windows! You name it, it was fixed!

Have you ever seen this kind of a rose???
I thought they were really neat looking especially in this type of a bowl
We had this arrangement on the dining room table
The chandelier above this table was so insanely beautiful you must remember to purchase the issue to see it!!

I really loved the pinks and reds with that chair and come on who doesn't love hydrangeas!?

Each room took about an hour to arrange everything how we liked it....
We were always running around back and forth moving a pillow a half-inch
or adding books for dimension

One of my favorite spots in the house was the grandkid's playroom!
So colorful, so playful, great artwork!
I mean look at those poufs!!

Adding more color to the basement "hangout"
or a necessary snack time after 9 hours of shooting.....

If there was one thing I learned today I would definitely say
It's all  in the details!
It truly makes ALL the difference!!
